Learner and provisional licence holders face harsher penalties. Any speeding offence typically results in a minimum of 4 demerit points and 3-month suspension for learners and provisional P1 licence holders.
P2 licence holders caught speeding by 30 km/h or more over the limit may have the period of their provisional category of licence extended by 6 months for each offence, plus a 3-month suspension. (cl.35A Road Transport (Driver Licensing) Regulation 2017).
